To struggle in life or academically, is to be steadily challenged beyond your comfort zone. In this unit we dove deeper into quadratic functions which was where I struggled the most in this challenging course. As we learned the basics of quadratics, we investigated some terms such as parabola, which is the name a quadratic graph ( a U-shaped ) which was either upside down or right-side up depending if the x squared value was negative or postive, vertex(the truning point in graph) which is the highest or lowest point in a parabola, and line of symetry(the "line" in which a graph is mirrored on both sides. We also investgated how to interpret a quadratic function through its equations. The three forms that these equations can be written are standard form, vertex form, and expanded form. Vertex form is the equation that you normally use when graphing parabolas, but when trying to find the x-intercepts (the value of x when the line crosses the x-axis) the best form would be expanded. Considering these options, we discovered how to transform each form to another to get the most efficeint answer. To do this, our class mastered factoring, completing the square method, and the quadatric formula. The main struggle that I encountered in this unit was the test review that covered every concept that we learned and even applied it to different situations and problems. The hardest part for me was remebering the steps of completing the square, understanding what each step meant, and what it accomplished. When I practiced, I always made a little mistake on those questions, making my answer wrong altogehter. To fix this I did two things. On my test review, you can see where I wrote in pencil and where I wrote in pink pen. The reason for this is that the pencil was my first attempt and the pen is my corrections going back through. Even though I still struggled through this and had to make many corrections, I still learned from those mistakes which strengthened my knowledge of quadratics. Another solution I tried was coming in during lunch and advisory to get assistance form Dr. Shaefer, my math teacher, to thouroughly understand the terms and concepts that the review packet covered. These two things helped me to be prepared for the unit test. I overcame this struggle through doing extra practice with my teacher and recognizing my mistakes. In the end, I received a 86% on my unit test. My main mistakes were minor, such as mixing up negative and positve numbers, but I learned that small mistakes do make a big impact to the final answer. After the test, I completed test corrections for each incorrect answe ot ensure that I had mastered this topic fully. Not only will these mastered terms and concepts help me in 10th grade, but also the advocacy that I used to receive help from my teacher and doing corrections to my mistakes as notes for the future. This struggle in this process was transformed into a learning experience for future years.

These pictures show my test review that included each concept in the quadratic unit.

This shows the unit test and the test corrections made after taking the test.
